Programa<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span>de<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span>la<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong><\/span>Xerrada<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n “A history of the pregnancy test”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Xerrada condu\u00efda per Jesse Olszynko-Gryn<\/p>\n Jesse Olszynko-Gryn is a PhD student in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, Cambridge University. He works on the history of the pregnancy test, first marketed directly to women in 1971. His research concentrates on mid-twentieth-century Britain (c.1930-1970), when pregnancy testing was a diagnostic service offered by a few specialised laboratories. As part of the social history of pregnancy, he uses diaries, letters, newspapers, magazines, novels and films to recover and contextualise the changing experience of early pregnancy from self-diagnosis and clinical examination to laboratory and home testing as well as the more general transformation of patients into consumers.
